Oceanside Homes for Sale

As the name implies, Oceanside, California, is a coastal city located in San Diego County. With a population of just over 183,000, Oceanside is the third largest city in the county. Oceanside is part of a tri-city area also containing Carlsbad and Vista. The city covers 42.2 square miles with 3.5 miles of beachfront and is located just south of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. It lies about 35 miles from downtown San Diego.

There is a diverse mix of housing available in Oceanside including beach estates, planned communities, condo developments and rural horse properties. Oceanside is known as a bedroom community, and many properties feature striking views of the Pacific Ocean. About 25 percent of Oceanside's homes were built in the 1970s, while another 50 percent were built between 1980 and 2000. Oceanside is roughly divided into three zones. The first is the beach and historic downtown. This area is a mix of apartments, condos, beach homes and mobile homes. The second area is just east and contains many homes that were constructed in the 1950s and 1960s. The third zone is on the far east side of the city and contains much of the new development, with some gated subdivisions.

Oceanside Transportation and Commuting

Oceanside is accessed by Highway 78 and Interstate 15. Commuter rail service is provided by Metrolink to Orange County and Los Angeles County. North County Transit District provides transportation for the North County of San Diego via the Coaster, Sprinter and Breeze. Amtrak's Pacifc Surfliner offers 11 daily round-trips from Oceanside to San Diego, Anaheim and Los Angeles, as well as extended service to Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. Nearest airports are the Oceanside Municipal Airport, McClellan-Palomar Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and San Diego International Airport.
